Supportive Resources & Healthy Community Groups
Updated: Sep 4
You Don't Have to Walk Through This Alone
We believe God desires you to grow in truth, wisdom, safety, freedom, and healthy relationship, regardless of whether another person chooses to change. Healing does not mean pretending that something harmful did not happen. It does not require remaining in an unsafe or destructive situation, nor does it mean that reconciliation must occur before genuine change, repentance, and safety are established. God often brings support through Scripture, prayer, healthy Christian community, wise counsel, trained professionals, support groups, and trustworthy resources. The following organizations, books, podcasts, and educational resources may provide additional support along your journey.
Resource Disclaimer: Inclusion on this page does not mean His Invisible Hands endorses every belief, theological position, therapeutic approach, treatment recommendation, or statement made by an author or organization. We encourage you to prayerfully evaluate resources through Scripture and seek qualified pastoral, medical, mental-health, or legal assistance when appropriate.

TRAUMA EDUCATION
The following books are included as educational resources rather than statements of our theological position. Trauma terminology can help us understand patterns and responses, but we do not believe a diagnosis, nervous-system response, past wound, or trauma history should become the entirety of a person's identity. Understanding our story should help move us toward truth, responsibility, compassion, wise choices, healing, and maturity—not hopelessness or permanent victimhood.
The Body Keeps the Score
Bessel van der Kolk, M.D.
Explores how traumatic experiences may affect the brain, body, emotions, relationships, and responses to perceived danger.
Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving
Pete Walker

A WORD ABOUT HEALTHY COMMUNITY
Healing does not mean remaining alone with your pain.
“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” — Romans 12:15
Healthy community gives us space to tell the truth, grieve losses, receive compassion, seek wisdom, establish appropriate boundaries, accept loving correction, and continue growing. There is also a difference between being supported in our pain and being encouraged to remain stuck in our pain.
We can acknowledge: “I was wounded.” without believing: “My wound is who I am.”
We can acknowledge: “Someone sinned against me.” without allowing another person's choices to determine the direction of the rest of our lives.
We can understand why we developed certain protective responses while also recognizing that, as adults, we are responsible for how we respond, what we believe, the boundaries we establish, and the choices we make moving forward.
Healing does not erase the story.
Healing changes what power the story has over our future.
Our hope is that healthy support ultimately leads us toward greater truth, freedom, responsibility, wisdom, love, forgiveness, discernment, maturity, and dependence upon God.
